Long, long ago there lived a kind and humble man named Ali Baba. He chopped wood in the forest and lived quietly, content with little.
One day in the woods he heard hoofbeats and hid behind a tree. He watched riders come up to a great rock and say the magic words: "Open Sesame!" The rock swung open like a little door.
When the riders galloped away, Ali Baba tiptoed up and repeated, "Open Sesame!" Inside gleamed coins and bright carpets. Ali Baba took only a small purse — just enough to buy bread for his family.
Now he had a greedy acquaintance who wanted to grab everything at once. The man scooped up so much treasure that he could not carry it, and in his greed he even forgot the magic words at the door!
Kind Ali Baba came back and helped him out. "Take only what you need, and your heart will rest easy," he said gently. And for the first time the greedy man saw how nice it feels not to be greedy.
At home Ali Baba shared his bread with the neighbors, and everyone was full and happy.
Evening came. Ali Baba blew out his candle, pulled up his blanket, and fell into a calm, happy sleep. Goodnight.
