Once upon a time there were three cheerful little pigs, and one day they decided to build their own homes. The first pig made a house of straw, the second a house of sticks, and off they scampered to play in the sunshine.
But the third little pig was hardworking. He took his time and laid brick upon brick, until he had built a strong, warm house with a cozy little chimney.
One day a grey wolf came wandering through the woods. He puffed at the straw house, then at the stick house, and both little pigs ran, giggling, to their brother's brick home.
The wolf huffed and puffed with all his might, but the sturdy brick house did not even wobble. At last the wolf grew tired, gave a big yawn, chuckled at himself, and wandered away for good.
The three little pigs gathered by the warm fire, sipped milk with honey, and hugged their hardworking brother. "How lovely it is to have a strong little house," they said.
Soon the pigs' eyes began to droop. They snuggled under soft blankets, listened to the fire crackle gently, and drifted into a sweet, sweet sleep. Goodnight, little one.
